1. Insert coin (about these terms)

Think of this as the rulebook that loads before the game does. These terms cover every booking, visit and game at Escape Time St Ives (“we”, “us”, “our”), run by Escape Time St Ives Cornwall Ltd, plus anything you get up to on escapetimestives.co.uk. Give them a proper read. Making a booking presses start for your whole squad, so you’re accepting these terms on behalf of everyone playing — and it’s on you to make sure every player in your party has read and understood them before the clock starts.

2. Select your level (our games)

Escape Time St Ives runs live escape-room games — on the roster right now: The St Ives Slayer and The Lost Treasure of Pirate Kernow. Each game runs 60 minutes on the clock. A game master has your back the whole way through, watching over camera and audio to keep you safe and to drop hints whenever you’re stuck. You can leave whenever you like: where a room’s door locks during the game, there’s always a clearly marked emergency release right by it, so you’re never truly stuck — no combo required.

3. Press start (booking and payment)

Games are booked by the room for your whole crew — the price on screen buys the room for the group size you pick.
We take payment when you book; that’s what locks your slot onto the board.
Most rooms seat 2 to 6 players online — groups of 8 or more should call us first. Please book the number of players who’ll actually turn up, so we can set the level up just right for you.
Give us accurate contact details — we use them to confirm your game and to reach you if anything changes.
Our online booking runs on SimplyBook. Checking out means you also accept SimplyBook’s terms and conditions, which cover how your booking is taken and processed.

4. Player one, get ready (arriving for your game)

Please roll up a couple of minutes before your booked start time so we can check you in and get you to the start screen. To keep things fair on every group, games begin and end at their booked times: turn up late and your game may be trimmed, because it can’t run past the booked finish. Running behind? Call us on 01736 887444 as soon as you can. Arriving too late to actually play counts as a no-show under our Cancellation Policy.

5. Health, safety and suitability (read this one properly)

Our games play out in enclosed, themed spaces and can throw in low lighting, big atmospheric sound, strobe or flashing lighting, and the odd jump scare. Playing is voluntary and, subject to section 10 below, at your own risk. If that’s not your idea of a good time — or if anyone in your group is pregnant or has a health condition such as a heart condition, epilepsy or light sensitivity, claustrophobia, or a mobility need — have a word with us before you book and we’ll happily advise whether a room is a good fit. Please don’t play under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as we can turn players away on safety grounds with no refund. Everyone follows our safety instructions and signage — no exceptions.

6. Know your rating (age and supervision)

The St Ives Slayer is recommended for ages 13 and over; younger players may take part at a parent’s or guardian’s discretion. The Lost Treasure of Pirate Kernow suits ages 8 and up. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied in the room by a participating adult aged 18 or over. We may ask to see proof of age.

7. While the clock’s running (during the game)

Follow your game master’s instructions at all times — think of them as your co-op guide.
Our puzzles are cracked with brainpower, not muscle. Please don’t climb on, stand on or yank hard at the fixtures, and keep tools, torches and phones out of it inside the room.
Behaviour that’s unsafe, threatening or destructive — towards yourselves, other guests, our crew or the venue — is game over: we’ll stop play and ask you to leave, with no refund.
You’re responsible for any deliberate or reckless damage to our rooms or props, and we may charge the reasonable cost of repair or replacement.

8. Your loot (belongings)

Please stash your stuff in the space or lockers we provide and leave valuables out of the room. Except where it’s caused by our negligence, we’re not responsible for loss of, theft of, or damage to personal belongings brought to the venue.

9. No spoilers (photography, recording and keeping the secret)

We keep an eye on the rooms for safety and game-play. We don’t routinely record your session, and if we ever fancied using photographs or video of your group for marketing, someone on our team would ask you first. In return, help us protect the magic for the next players to load in: don’t photograph or film inside the rooms, and please keep puzzle solutions and spoilers off the internet.

10. The legal bit (our responsibility to you)

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales. Subject to that: you play our games voluntarily and at your own risk; we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses; and our total liability in connection with a booking is capped at the amount you paid for that booking. None of this affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

11. Gift vouchers (the ultimate power-up)

Gift vouchers stay valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and can be redeemed against any bookable game, subject to availability. You’re very welcome to hand them to another player. Cancellations and refunds for voucher bookings are covered in our Cancellation Policy.

12. Continue? (cancellations, changes and refunds)

How to move or cancel a booking, and when a refund is due, is all mapped out in our Cancellation Policy, which forms part of these terms.

13. Your data (privacy)

We look after your personal information in line with our Privacy Policy. We hang onto booking and waiver records for six years, in case of any personal-injury claim, as permitted under the law of England and Wales.

14. Patch notes and governing law

We may update these terms now and then; the version that applies to your booking is whichever one is live on escapetimestives.co.uk at the moment you book. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute is subject to its courts.
